William H. Barremore promissory note and act of sale, 1846-1848.

This collection consists of a legal document dated Dec. 15, 1848, in the handwriting of New Orleans attorney Wheelock S. Upton and signed by William H. Barremore, transferring a collection of Barrymore's 29 bound vols. of Louisiana Gazette (1803-1826), to John R. Shaw as payment for a debt. Also included is Barremore's promissory note regarding this debt, dated Oct. 31, 1846.

William H. Barremore and his wife Mary Randall Barremore had three children; the family moved from Massachusetts to New Orleans, La., about 1836.
